How to Build a UI Automation Screen Reader

Posted under Developer & Office User
Written by: Thomas Logan

I created some video trainings for Microsoft about creating a Microsoft UI Automation based screen reader. They demonstrate what the new technology can do using a reader for the New York Times. It was fun to work with the New York Times Reader as it is a very cutting edge application built with the Windows Presentation Foundation. The videos demonstrate that Microsoft UI Automation can be used to achieve accessibility in state-of-the-art applications.

The videos are in 5 parts here:

  1. Part 1 – UI Automation for Developers Overview
  2. Part 2 – Improving Performance
  3. Part 3 – Controlling the UI
  4. Part 4 – Addressing AT Innovation
  5. Part 5 – Addressing Access to Rich Text

Thanks you guys. This is a great job that helps us understand the new UI Automation technology.

We developed PCVoz Screen reader application; it’s an inexpensive application that we commercialize for Latin American schools and libraries. It requires being upgrade to use the new UI Automation technology.

Is there a way to get a basic sample screen reader based on UI Automation source code? , It would be great if the UIAreader sample code could be downloaded.

    Thanks.
